What's it like being on furlough during coronavirus?

 A new type of post....

Hi Guys!

It's been a while since you've heard from me, and a lot has happened since.

I've graduated, worked, quit my job and now worked at another company.

The current job meant that I was working in the travel industry, a industry where corona virus has hit the hardest. It's tough being in this climate, because of the uncertainty that comes with it.

So, a few months back I was placed on furlough.

What does this mean?

It means that the government pays 80% of my salary up to £2500.

Firstly, yes, I'm thankful that I still have income coming in. Secondly, it's great having all this additional time (to binge on netflix) and do DIY.

However, being on furlough also has its negatives. For someone who suffers from anxiety, the situation is awful.

Will I have a job? Will I know what to do when I return? What's next?

As a recent graduate, although I do have experience I know many others will be competing for the same jobs in this difficult time. This means its harder to land a role, and expectations will be higher. For me, this causes a lot of turmoil for my mental heath, as I can't be in control of what happens next.

I thought I'd write this post to let you know, that although we are in the middle of a pandemic, more than ever we need to show kindness and support each other. This post is to let you know, you are not alone.

So whether you're a friend, or a stranger who happened to come across this post. Please reach out! We're always hear to listen (myself included).

Until next post...

All the best,

Kelly
